This is specially important for me to help me to manage my will to keep Van der Waal going and growing, no matter what. Like that, our new space is a true representation of our journey and values. At a time that Van der Waal is not selling as much as I would like, this represents a risk but also an opportunity to prove that we can make things change.
From home to here
The idea of moving from my house to a new space began when I started to notice some shame in my daughter about inviting friends over to the house... the true is that a living room full of brown boxes, rolls of our surf grip material, a cutting machine, stickers and all the mess I make while preparing orders is not the most fancy thing for a teenager to show in her Instagram. When I saw this tiny, dirty and moldy storefront ad with a low budget, I faced it as sign to move and take the step forward.
Hands-On Transformation
Instead of outsourcing the renovation, we took it upon ourselves to sand, grout, and paint every inch of the space. This hands-on approach not only allowed us to infuse personal care into the details, but it also reinforced our commitment to craftsmanship and dedication. Each brushstroke of paint and every tile we grouted was done with a deep sense of pride. I was not only saving money, I was (as always) put my blood, sweat and tears in the space where I will work for the next couple years.
Why It Matters
This transformation is more than just a physical change; it symbolizes our growth and evolution as a company. It serves as a daily reminder of where we started, the hurdles we’ve overcome, and the bright future that lies ahead. Our new office is not just a place to work, but a space that gave me back a feeling that I hadn't had for a long time: coming back home by the end of the day.
