No need to say that I don’t love the idea behind Black Friday. Most of the time I just watch companies highering product prices a few weeks before this date in order to offer huge fake discounts to users during Black Friday weeks. Also, I always have a deep feeling of overconsuming. A lot of people buying a lot of items they don’t really need… they just can.
That’s why our BF is always a little bit weird. We don’t offer huge discounts just to increase sales. We try to make it meaningful. Last year we offered 10% to the user and 10% on all weekend sales to save the oceans. We did not make a lot of sales and the donation wasn’t huge, but that wasn’t the point
This year I started as a volunteer in a surf therapy association. Will not say that changed my life but changed the way I see and feel surfing for sure. I’ve learned more with these guys than I expected. The way they face surf is not that different from any other surfer: they try over and over to improve their surf level, constantly adapting their physical capabilities to ocean conditions. They are fearless in a way I never imagined (and that I’m not). No matter the waves’ size or if it’s freezing or raining or if it’s too damn early for a Saturday morning… they’re ready to get wet.
And on top of that, they are among the happiest surfers I’ve ever surfed with. And we all know that the best surfer out there is the one having more fun :D
Watching (and sometimes helping to) their evolution were some of the most rewarding and memorable moments this year. And I can say with certainty that these surfers helped me as much or more than I helped them.
